Environmentally Friendly Mosquito Control Methods Using Mosquito Traps Compared To Conventional Control Methods

Abstract:

Recent developments in trapping technologies for mosquitoes have significantly improved the collection performance of these devices. This improved not only the surveillance of mosquito populations but also raises the possibility to implement mass trapping as an alternative to conventional insecticide applications for mosquito control. The presentation summarizes the state of the art of various trapping technologies and shows examples where traps have been using successfully to suppress local mosquito populations. Advantages and limitations of mass trapping technologies will be discussed, and examples will be presented demonstrating how traps can play a central role in modern integrated vector management and disease control.
